Alias Careers for Students
In line with the University's ambition to be an increasingly welcoming place, where everyone's uniqueness is respected and valued, and where inequalities and stereotypes are actively challenged, the Politecnico di Milano has offered students the possibility of activating an Alias Career since 2017.
This measure is intended to ensure that members of the student community who identify with a gender different from that assigned to them at birth can pursue their studies within the Politecnico in a supportive environment, where interpersonal relationships are based on fairness, mutual respect for individual freedoms, and the inviolability of the person. Through the Alias Career, the individual obtains a university ID card, an institutional email address, and personal details on University platforms updated with their chosen name, namely the name they have selected to be identified by within the University.
Originally intended for individuals undergoing a gender transition process, the recent approval of amendments to the protocol has extended eligibility to those who have not yet begun such a process, as well as to non-binary people, without the need to provide medical documentation relating to gender transition or gender dysphoria. This makes the procedure more inclusive and accessible, recognising a broader range of gender identities and personal experiences.
The update, consistent with the 2019 Guidelines for Italian Universities on the Implementation of Alias Careers issued by the National Conference of Equal Opportunity Bodies of Italian Universities, was made possible thanks to the work of the CUG – Comitato Unico di Garanzia (Joint Committee for Equal Opportunities, Workplace Wellbeing and Anti-Discrimination), with the essential support of several central administrative departments, including the Academic Services Area, ICT Services Area, Human Resources and Organisation Area, and General Affairs and Strategic Support Area. A fundamental contribution was also made by Chiara Nuzzo and Filippo Palazzetti, who represent the student body within the CUG.

It should also be noted that, since 2024, academic staff and technical-administrative staff have likewise been able to activate an Alias Career.
Initiatives for Pride Week 2026
The Politecnico di Milano's commitment to inclusion and gender identity issues is also reflected in the initiatives organised for the seventh edition of the University's Pride Week.
On 17 June, Igor Suran and Paolo Armelli return with Road to Pride 2025 for a discussion dedicated to the history of Pride, the evolution of LGBTQI+ representation in the media, and the role of pop culture in shaping the collective imagination.
On 24 June, at 5:30 p.m., at Off Campus Provvisorio di Turro, a performance combining theatre, science, and drag will accompany participants on a walk through botany and queer reflections.
To close the week, on 27 June, the Politecnico will once again take part in the Milan Pride Parade together with the student association PoliEdro. Throughout Pride Week, the Rectorate Building will also be illuminated in the colours of the LGBTQI+ flag.
