The ISEE is an indicator of the financial situation of the household and is issued by INPS for those with income and assets in Italy. It can be requested through the INPS Web site which also provides a pre-filled application option, or through a CAF (Tax Assistance Centre).
Politecnico di Milano carries out checks on the declarations submitted for the issuance of the ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) certification, particularly for the household composition, income and asset data. (Art. 7 paragraph 7 of the Regulation on student contribution).
- Complete the DSU (Single Self-Declaration) and submit it to INPS, beither through the INPS website or through a CAF (Tax Assistance Centre); when you submit the DSU, you will receive a receipt showing the date on which the DSU was signed.
- Log in to the Online Services (Data > University fees > ISEE) within the deadlines and enter the date on which the DSU (Dichiarazione Sostitutiva Unica – Single Self-Declaration) was signed. Politecnico di Milano will verify with INPS that the ISEE has been calculated.
INPS takes 10 working days to calculate and issue the Attestation.
- the Attestation must show a date of the Single Self-Declaration subsequent to 31st December 2026 for ISEE issued in 2027 (second instalment A.Y. 2026/2027) and subsequent to 31st December 2025 for ISEE issued in 2026 (first instalment A.Y. 2026/2027)
- there is the wording "prestazioni agevolate per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario use" with reference to your fiscal code
- the absence of any annotations relating to omissions/discrepancies identified by INPS; if any are present, you will need to request a new ISEE certificate and register the relevant data.
If your household’s financial situation has worsened compared with two years ago, you can request the “current ISEE”, which recalculates the ISEE value.
The current ISEE is issued:
- when one of the family members has suffered a loss, suspension or reduction of work or remuneration (welfare, social security or indemnity);
- if a significant change in income (more than 25 per cent) took place;
- as of 1st April of each year, even where the nuclear family’s net assets have reduced by more than 20%.
You must have already submitted a DSU (Single Substitute Declaration) and received the certificate with the income situation indicator.
Verification of legal conditions to issue the current ISEE is carried out by INPS and CAF (Tax assistance centre).
What to do
- Go to a CAF or go directly to INPS
- Enter the signing date of the Single Substitute Declaration submitted to obtain the current ISEE in the Online Services
- If you have already entered another DSU in the Online Services for the current academic year under which you have already been assigned an income bracket, please contact the Registrar's Office before proceeding with the new registration
Further information
INPS provides a range of useful information on its website:
If you have income and assets abroad, or abroad and in Italy, you cannot request an ISEE certificate. In this case, to obtain exemptions for student contributions, you must request an equivalent ISEE, issued by the CAF affiliated with Politecnico di Milano.
Please note: through this indicator you cannot request the exemption according to the Law 232/2016 as subsequently amended and supplemented.
