The PhD in Physics provides a strong interdisciplinary education, focusing on advanced research and technology challenges. Each PhD candidate builds up a sound expertise based on advanced courses and on an individual research project, culminating in an original PhD thesis.
The PhD in Physics is characterized by a strong experimental character. It aims at providing high scientific education and training to develop research abilities in applied physics, as needed by advanced technological companies. The research projects are carried out at the Physics Department and at linked research centers, in collaboration with high-level international institutions.
The scientific activity deals with topics in the following Research Lines of the Department: i) Ultrafast optics and spectroscopy, ii) Solid state lasers and photonic devices, iii) Photonics for health, food and cultural heritage, iv) Epitaxial growth and nanostructure fabrication, v) Electronic, optical and magnetic properties of low-dimensional systems.
