When to register for the test

Academic year 2024/2025

The TOLD in Italian or in English is carried out IN PERSON and will take place in University computer rooms.

TOLD IN ITALIAN

You can sit the TOLD in Italian up to a maximum of two times: one date for each time window.  The best score will be taken into account for the purposes of drawing up the ranking list.

  • first time window: from 1 March to 2 April 2025
  • second time window: from 3 April 2025 to 24 May 2025

TOLD IN ENGLISH

You can sit the TOLD in English only once:

single time window: from 15 March 2025 to 24 May 2025.

Go to the TOLD calendar

To register for the TOLD, register on the Politecnico di Milano’s Online Services. Once you have received your code and password, log in to your personal account and follow this path: "Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) and five-year single-cycle programmes: entrance or receovery tests and enrolment" > "Test Registration", then choose TOL Design in Italian or TOL Design in English, and follow the online procedure.

For each test date, you can see in real time the dates, test times, remaining available places and time periods where you can register. In each window you can only sign up for one of the scheduled dates.

Before booking the journey to come and sit the TOLD in person, make sure that your registration is successful, as you may not find available places for the date you have chosen.

If there are no more available places on the test you want to register for, don't worry: you can use the same payment for any other test date.

If you sign up for a test and do not show up, you will be considered absent and the test will be considered equivalent to taking it for the purposes of repeatability.

If you are an Italian student with an foreign qualification, you must follow the same enrolment procedure as Italian students: in addition, however, you will have to submit some additional documents to the International Students Office.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
To be admitted on to the entrance test TOLD in Italian language you will have to prove your proficiency in the Italian language.

This proficiency can be demonstrated by taking a language test organised by Cisia (Consorzio Interuniversitario Sistemi Integrati per l'Accesso) which will take place remotely on 10 July 2025.
All students who have completed the registration for the entrance test by 31 May 2025 will be automatically registered for the exam. The test pass mark is a proficiency level of B2 or above.

Alternatively, you can submit an Italian language certificate of at least B2 level of the CLIQ (Certificazione Lingua Italiana di Qualità), to be sent to the International Students Office (contacts) no later than 31 May 2025.
More information on accepted certificates can be found here.

PLEASE NOTE: students who have not achieved the minimum score on the Italian language test, or who have not sent in a valid certificate by the above deadline, will not be admitted to take the entrance exam.

STUDENTS IN THE MARCO POLO PROGRAMME

Students participating in the Marco Polo programme, in order to benefit from the number of places reserved for them, must present a similar certificate of Italian language proficiency by 31 May 2025.

In the absence of such a certificate, they will be able to sit the Italian language test scheduled for 10 July 2025 and, if they pass with at least B2 level, they will be able to sit the TOLD admission test using the places reserved for students in the reserved quota, but they will not be considered as Marco Polo students.

PLEASE NOTE: students who have not achieved the minimum score on the Italian language test or who have not submitted a valid certificate by the above deadline will not be admitted to sit the admission test.
