Description

The Master’s program aims to strengthen the link between universities and the professional world by training professionals with legal, managerial, risk management, and process analysis skills, as well as an awareness of relevant technological aspects. Their primary responsibility is to organize and manage the processing of personal data (and therefore its protection) within an organization (public or private), ensuring that such data are processed in compliance with national and European privacy regulations in contexts engaged in digital transformation pathways. The Master’s program is supported, through the activation of curricular training internships, by public institutions and bodies and their related agencies and companies (including ARIA SpA, ATM SpA, Fiera Milano SpA, among others), as well as by private companies and professional firms operating in the field of privacy and personal data protection.

Educational project

The specializing Master DPOTD aims to provide knowledge and tools for the protection of personal data and the digitalization of organizations and processes, in accordance with the European Regulation "GDPR" (EU Regulation 2016/679) and other relevant regulations, including the European AI Act (EU Regulation 2024/1689 on Artificial Intelligence, also known as the European AI Act). The GDPR requires the adoption of appropriate technical and organizational measures for aspects such as the protection of the right to be forgotten, the right to data portability, compliance with the principle of accountability, breach notification procedures, simplified access to one’s personal data, the one-stop-shop mechanism, and the concepts of privacy by default and by design, all of which change the way data must be collected, processed, and stored. In this context, companies and public bodies need experts capable of designing digital transition pathways that take into account innovative technologies—such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things—as well as the growing risks in the field of cybersecurity, while at the same time ensuring compliance with the GDPR. The key professional figure addressing these needs is the Data Protection Officer (DPO), a mandatory role for all public administrations and, where required, in the private sector. The DPO must ensure a strong command of relevant regulations, as well as knowledge in cybersecurity and information systems, in order to engage effectively with the multiple roles involved in personal data protection and digital transformation, including the Digital Transition Manager. Through a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and practical exercises, the Master’s program aims to train specialized professional profiles, with a particular focus on the DPO role.
