Descrizione dell'iniziativa
Silvana Annichiarico, independent design curator, offers a series of dialogues with 10 masters, focusing on design that oscillates between industry and art, technology and poetry. The course is offered as an elective for master's degrees and is open to students interested in the topics addressed by the guests. The course explores the generation of designers born between 1935 and 1955: creators who do not belong to the legendary era of the founding fathers of Italian design, but who have taken up their legacy to transform, expand and surpass it. While the great masters - from Ponti to Albini, Castiglioni to Sottsass, Magistretti to Mendini - worked "from the spoon to the city" without yet embodying the autonomous figure of the contemporary designer, this subsequent generation defined its identity and boundaries, questioning established rules and opening up new disciplinary territories. They did not invent the Italian design system: they extended it, contaminated it, made it more articulated. Many of them worked alongside the Masters; precisely for this reason, they were able to interpret them critically, continuing their research in new forms. Growing up in the cultural climate of 1968 and trained in the transition between modernism, postmodernity, high tech, minimalism and sustainability, they absorbed radical utopias and transformed them into concrete experiments. Their designs oscillate between industry and art, technology and poetry, communication and politics, writing and design. They have opened up new frontiers: from radical and utopian visions (Alessandro Guerriero) to spiritual design (Tarshito - Nicola Strippoli); from engineering lightness (Paolo Rizzatto) to pop storytelling (Stefano Giovannoni); from the ethical dimension of design (Paolo Deganello) to cultural contamination (Paola Navone); from the imaginative inventions of Denis Santachiara to the experimentation of Francesco Binfaré; from the international design of William Sawaya and Paolo Moroni to the designer-entrepreneur Carlo Forcolini.
