Descrizione dell'iniziativa
The theory of fluid dynamic stability has advanced rapidly over the last 50 years thanks to new theoretical concepts and increasing computational power. However, these developments are still scarcely represented in standard curricula.
This course aims to fill this gap by offering a practical introduction to flow stability. Students will develop a modern view of the subject, understand the main concepts, and test them on simple but significant cases. The course is taught jointly by experts from Politecnico di Milano and the Technical University of Berlin. The 20-hour program is split between Milano and Berlin, with the other site attending via Webex.
BERLIN:
1) Introduction: 2h
2) Dynamical systems + Bifurcations: 2h
3) Linear Stability: 2h
4) Sensitivities: 2h
5) Linear Stability with symmetries: 2h
MILAN:
6) Linear Stability of parallel flows 1: 2h
7) Linear stability of parallel flows 2: 2h
8) Local versus Global: 2h
9) Transient growth and receptivity: 2h
10) Resolvent analysis: 2h
