Politecnico di Milano received the certification for gender equality under UNI/PdR 125:2022. RINA recognised Politecnico’s gender equality action plan and management system’s quality and assessed its work for promoting and protecting diversity and equal opportunities in the workplace, measuring employee progress and results.

The certification ceremony was attended by Rector Donatella Sciuto, General Director Graziano Dragoni, Rector’s Delegate for Diversity and Inclusion and responsible for the certification procedure Mara Tanelli, and RINA representatives Umberto Vicentini, Italy Certification Commercial Director, and North Italy Certification Large Accounts Business Development Manager, Cristina De Marchi.

The gender equality certification followed an evaluation process based on 31 parameters including corporate culture and strategy, training opportunities, women’s growth and inclusion, fair pay, and initiatives to protect parenthood and work-life balance.

RINA acknowledged Politecnico di Milano’s commitment to fostering a culture inspired by the values of hospitality, inclusivity, equal opportunities and the enhancement of individual uniqueness. This took place by implementing initiatives aimed at dismantling stereotypes and combating discrimination, with a focus on the psychophysical well-being of the University community.

Politecnico di Milano reports gender inclusion and equality activities in two periodic documents, the Gender Balance and Gender Equality Plan
The University established best practices to prevent gender disparities during staff recruitment and career management and provides support for staff returning from maternity or paternity leave. It promotes gender equality outside its organisational framework, and provides student initiatives.

This certification enables the University to demonstrate its commitment to gender equality to stakeholders, reinforcing a management model that ensures key performance indicators (KPIs) are continuously updated and accessible.

This certification confirms our University’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. It rewards the initiatives implemented since the launch of the POP (Equal Politecnico Opportunities) project in 2018. Over the past six years, we have mobilised resources and implemented initiatives to encourage positive behaviour and establish best practices embraced by our community of professors and professionals. We were among the first universities in the country to acknowledge the importance of providing a work, study, and research environment that values individuals in their uniqueness, irrespective of gender. This is not a simple formality, but a clear signal positioning us alongside major corporations and public institutions dedicated to economic and social progress, for future generations.

Donatella Sciuto, Rettrice del Politecnico di Milano

We are pleased to have certified Politecnico di Milano under UNI/PdR 125:2022, which attests to the adoption of a management system to safeguard against gender discrimination, reaffirming the University's commitment to the well-being of its employees. This certification is a significant acknowledgement of Politecnico di Milano’s effort to promote an inclusive environment, which values diversity and overcomes stereotypes related to gender, identity and expression. It marks the beginning of a journey with positive implications for the University’s reputation.
