T.I.M.E. Top International Managers in Engineering

The T.I.M.E. Association (Top International Managers in Engineering), founded in 1989 is a network of leading technical universities and engineering schools in Europe and all over the world, with a strong international dimension in teaching, research and industrial relations. The association currently consists of of 59 members in 25 countries.

Politecnico di Milano is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Association and it served twice as President of the Association.

T.I.M.E. Projects Call for Applications 

The call for projects funded by the T.I.M.E. Association is now open.

Short Distinguished T.I.M.E. Seminars 

The T.I.M.E. Association is launching a new initiative aimed at building a platform with an offer of short teaching seminars (1 to 2 weeks) in different engineering topics. It will provide a one-stop resource (seminar offers, contact, expertise), easily accessed by the T.I.M.E. community.

The main objective of the association is to promote student mobility within the frame of double degrees at the Master of Science level.

Politecnico di Milano currently has active double degree agreements with 39 association members. For more information about double degree opportunities, students can visit the dedicated page of the international mobility section.

Besides double degree activities, T.I.M.E. promotes a series of other initiatives, including the T.I.M.E. projects through which the Association co-finances new or existing initiatives between member universities, in which T.I.M.E. can represent an added value.

Politecnico di Milano has already participated in several projects. At the moment, the following initiatives are active:

• GeoBIM for improved asset management, coordinated by prof. Fulvio Re Cecconi, DABC. The project involves Politecnico di Milano (coordinating institution), Lund University; Norwegian Universiy of Science and Technology and University College London (UCL). GeoBIM focuses on the organization of an international summer school on the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to improve decision making (Asset and Facilities Management - AM/FM).  This interdisciplinary Summer School, hosted by one of the institutions involved in the project, is addressed to 10 PhD students from the universities included in the consortium, working in the following research areas: AM/FM, GIS/3D City Modelling and BIM. The aim is to create a network of students with a strong awareness of concepts and skills outside their original field of study and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
• The Job Networking Sessions (JNS) project, coordinate by École Centrale Nantes. The projects involves the Écoles Centrale and the Italian and Spanish institutions members of T.I.M.E. The aim is on one hand to help T.I.M.E Alumni to increase the opportunities to start and develop a successful career by promoting their skills to international companies; on the other hand to increase the relations between T.I.M.E. universities and industries. The objective of the project is to organize 2 annual events, one in Italy and one in Spain, where T.I.M.E. graduates and students and HR managers representing some of the best companies in Spain and Italy come together, with the aim of promoting internship/job offers. At Politcnico di Milano, this initiative is managed by the International Mobility Unit.
• The T.I.M.E. International Real Estate Challenge project, coordinated by prof. Marzia Morena, DABC. This is a business game based on Real Estate management topics. Students, divided into teams, challenge each other assisted by local tutors.
• Training School on Modelling Compound climate-related Events project, coordinated  by prof. Carlo De Michele (DICA). The project involves Politecnico di Milano (coordinating institution), Technische Universität Dresden (Germany) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium). This project intends to propose a Training School on Modelling Compound climate-related Events to train the next generation of researchers and scientists to deal with such complex and impactful events. The school, targeted for PhD students, will be two weeks long, and will provide tools and methodologies to investigate compound events. In addition, there will be ample time to work on scientific projects organized in four small groups and socialize with the other participants and lecturers.
• The role of digitalization in supporting the industrial circular transition project, coordinated  by prof. Alessandra Neri (DIG). The project involves Politecnico di Milano (coordinating institution), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Universidad Politecnica di Madrid (Spain), University of the West of England (UK) and Aston Business School (UK). The project aims at conducting a survey in industrial firms to understand:
  • the most adopted digital technologies
  • the most adopted circular economy practices
  • the support offered by digital technologies to the adoption of specific circular economy practices
  • what capabilities are generated by the introduction and application of digital technologies that can support the adoption of circular economy practices
  The investigation will focus on industrial firms characterized by different contextual factors, namely the sector, the size, the country, the maturity level for digitalization and the circular economy. In this way, the above-mentioned points of interest will be synthesized with the contextual factors characterizing clusters of firms. Particularly, the contextual factors are expected to impact the possible role played by digital technologies.

Thanks to this task force, T.I.M.E. proposes a meaningful and long-term collaboration among members with the aim of making the Association and its universities a hub for future online learning materials. Politecnico di Milano, thanks to the its Task Force – Innovation in Teaching and learning, is actively involved in the development of the T.I.M.E. task force activities.
