Examples of teaching activities


This curricular course aims to develop familiarity with some central themes and issues of economic development, and increase the understanding of the difference between growth and development, major growth theories, the measurement of inequality, significance of poverty, international trade, and role of foreign investments.

Examples of research activities

La scuola dei quartieri [Neighbourhoods School]

The project  aims at creating widespread expertise in society, particularly in peripheral areas and neighbourhoods, on the subject of social innovation and consequent support for the creation of social enterprises. Eradication of poverty is identified as a goal parallel to the main focus of the project, which is reduction of inequalities (SDG10)

I was a Sari

I was a Sari is a social innovation project that starts from the recovery and re-design of the Indian Sari through training and co-creation practices in the field of tailoring and embroidery, favouring the development of a social context in which the condition of women is dignified and in which the fundamental rights of the person, such as the right to work, are respected. SDG5 (Gender Equality) is considered as the primary focus of the project, with poverty eradication, decent work and responsible production as parallel objectives.

Safari Njema

The ​SAFARI project, funded within the Polisocial Award edition of 2018, ​​aims at ​supporting a process of innovation and redesign of the current system of informal mobility in Sub-Saharan countries providing data and information which could feed a more efficient organisation to it​​. Such innovation is needed to support informal mobility and prevent its possible eradication, which would come at a ​high social cost for the more fragile sectors of the population, or for spatially marginal areas, ​with high risks of additional socio-spatial marginalisation​​.
