Description of the initiative
A type design workshop dedicated to the design of Cyrillic typefaces. Through historical and contemporary examples of Cyrillic calligraphy and typefaces, Ilya Ruderman (CSTM Fonts) will illustrate the specificities of the Cyrillic alphabet and the typographic needs of the different languages that use this alphabet. In the second part of the workshop, participants will work on the extension of a Cyrillic glyph set from an existing Latin character. The research will mix analogue (hand drawing on paper) and digital tools (Glyphs, FontLab, Robofab).
