Description of the initiative

Cities are changing. Urban dwellers' habits are changing. How will goods and people move around cities in 2040? What sustainable solutions can be imagined that contribute to, rather than detracting from, quality of life in the busy, congested city? These are just some of the questions we will try to answer together with the students involved. During a 6-week design studio, we'll fast forward a few years to reimagine urban logistics in a city that may be very different from today. How? After reviewing reports and data, teaming up with experts from Piaggio, we'll generate hypotheses on possible futures for the city and envision scenarios to depict what urban commercial logistics could look like in an ideal state. In this studio students will exercise their generative muscle, and will work in an interdisciplinary fashion bringing together learnings from urban planning, transportation and human-centered design. We'll come up with many ideas, but we'll act as one team. Throughout the program, a team of professionals (Katy Mogal, Stefano Bianchini and representatives from Piaggio) will support students in scoping research activites, analysing data, extracting actionable insights, designing future scenarios describing novel services, products and infrastructures, producing solid, company-grade outputs and moderating discussions with a "real" client
