Description of the initiative

OBJECTIVES
The activity aims primarily for illustrating the Building Automation application domain and its relevance, highlighting the technological challenges to be faced and emphasising the role that the competences of an Automation Engineer play in this context.
Another purpose of the activity is to provide examples of the current technology in the field of Building Automation and to discuss - compatibly with the time available - the foreseeable developments in this domain.
Last but certainly not least, the activity aims for introducing the students to the knowledge and understanding of the typical development cycle of a Building Automation application, commenting on the said cycle in the light of the required engineering competences.

TOOLS
The activity includes interactive frontal teaching and hands-on sessions, the latter with the use of application-specific hardware and software. The students will also be able to carry out autonomous simulation and coding activities, in this case using open tools.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Completion of an application project, of complexity adequate to the level of the activity and the time available, which will be proposed and conveniently commented in the class.
