How to request a certificate with revenue stamp (in Italian and in English)

To request certificates attesting the enrolment and/or the academic career relating to Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and Individual Courses, you have to use the Online Services and pay (on-line) the fees due(stamp duties and, where applicable, shipping costs).

The certificates can be issued only if intended for bodies other than public administrations or public service managers. Where the certificates are intended for the latter, the interested parties will be authorized to file in a self-certificate pursuant to art. 15 Italian Law 183/2011.

Warning: the requested certificates are non-refundable. At the time of the request, before confirming, please check you have selected the correct option.

Two types of certificates are issued:

How to request digital certificates

Access Online Services; in the "Data" section select the "Request certificates and self-certification" function, find the type of certificate you need among those available. There is also a notes field where you can express particular needs and in such case you could be contacted before the certificates are issued.

To receive the certificate, you can choose between two different modes:

  • download the digitally signed file from the Online Services section
  • ask the Politecnico di Milano to send the certificate to a specific institution by e-mail. If you choose this mode, you’ll not be able to download the certificate

As far as the issuance of digital certificates is concerned, the payment of the stamp duty must be associated with the use of the single certificate, therefore you have to carefully indicate:

  • the institution to which the document will be presented - It is not possible to request and present the same document to multiple institutions
  • the reason for which the request is being made - the latter must be written in the same language as the request for issuance of the certificate (example: in case of a certificate in English for admission to a foreign university, the reason must be indicated in English)

Please note: without this information it will be impossible to proceed with the issue of the certificate.

The certificates issued in digital format will only be valid if used as files - therefore, before requesting this type of certificate, we invite you to make sure that the recipient accepts this format as it will not be possible to proceed with any refund of the costs incurred for its issuance.

In particular, digital certificates, may not be accepted from:

  • prefectures for Legalization for use abroad
  • police headquarters for the renewal of the residence permit
  • authorities responsible for issuing UK visa for which the MOI (medium of instruction for UK visa, available only for students who have already graduated from university) is required

WARNING: It will be possible to download the certificates in digital format from the Online Services section for 30 days; then it will no longer be possible to download them or request a refund.

Self-certificate (self-certified declaration)

An Italian law allows citizens to self-certify the data held by Public Administrations; you can get a self-certificate concerning your academic career through a guided process: Online Servives > Data > Certificate and self certification request.

On the other hand, if you prefer a pre-set form to fill-in autonomously, you can download it in the Forms section of this site (under the heading "Substitute declaration of certification").

Self-certification Policy

According to the Italian consolidated law on administrative documents (Presidential Decree n. 445 of 28 December 2000) it is possible to present self-certifications or personal declarations of certifications to public administrations or bodies without the need to subsequently present the actual certificate. The public administration is required to accept them but it reserves the right to to check and verify the truthfulness of their content.

You can submit a self-certificate for enrolment in registers or lists held by the public administration and to certify the degree obtained, the exams taken, the student status. In these cases, the signature does not have to be authenticated and the declarations can only be used in exchanges with public administrations.
