Deepnude
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by the United Nations General Assembly and observed every year on November 25, the Politecnico di Milano organizes and promotes initiatives for education and awareness. This year, the Politecnico di Milano focuses its attention on the issue of digital violence — one of the fastest-growing forms of gender-based violence. According to international research, 96% of deepfakes online contain non-consensual pornographic content, and in 99% of cases, the victims are women. To raise awareness about this issue, the University is also joining the “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls” campaign promoted by UN Women. In line with this theme, the Department of Design — within the Communication Design degree program and the “Wesaystop” project, in collaboration with the Campus Life Area — has created a campaign on the phenomenon of Deepnude: multimedia sexualized content, often non-consensual, in which a person’s image is digitally and realistically replaced with that of another.
