UNS5 Meeting

The Somali National University's graduate training project

On 23 May, the first meeting of the project UNS5 - Institutional and Academic Strengthening of the Somali National University was held at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. The thirty-two Somali students who are studying in Italy thanks to the project came together for sharing experiences and working together.

The UNS5 project is funded by AICS (the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation) and aims to contribute to strengthening university-level education in Somalia by supporting the Somali National University in developing to become a benchmark institution.

The project is coordinated by the Politecnico di Milano and involves eight other Italian Universities (Università degli Studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Università di Bologna, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Università degli Studi di Pavia, Sapienza Università di Roma, Università degli Studi Roma Tre and Università degli Studi di Trieste). For the three-year period 2021-2024 the UNS5 project envisages a scholarship programme enabling deserving graduates from the Somali National University to attend, in Italy, Laurea Magistrale programmes (equivalent to Master of Science) in Agriculture, Economics, Law, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, as well as PhD programmes in Veterinary Medicine and specialisation activities in Medicine and Surgery.

The UNS5 project is part of the cooperation and sustainable development initiatives in which the Politecnico is engaged.
