Honorary Master of Science awarded to Paolo Merloni

For his great capacity for innovation and development in the energy sector


The Politecnico di Milano has awarded Paolo Merloni, Executive Chairman of Ariston Group, an Honorary Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) in Energy Engineering, recognising his exemplary performance as manager in the energy sector and innovator towards the energy transition.

During his career, Paolo Merloni has demonstrated enormous ability of transformation of Ariston Group, a company of Italian corporate tradition, through strong expansion, drive towards internationalisation, investment in human capital and major innovation towards energy efficiency,

said Professor Antonio Capone, Dean of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering, detailing during the ceremony the motivation for awarding the Honorary Master of Science Degree.

Merloni's vision and work were behind the creation of Ariston Innovative Technologies, a research and development centre based in Lombardy, which works in partnership with the Politecnico di Milano and develops medium- and long-term research on new technologies for environmental sustainability. Merloni's ideas were also behind Ariston being the first in Europe to introduce heat pumps for domestic hot water, increasing its commitment to sustainability through the development of new hybrid solutions, solar thermal systems, connected systems for monitoring consumption and remote diagnostics and Demand Response services.

The ceremony was opened with greetings by Rector Ferruccio Resta, followed by the Laudatio by Professor Mario Motta of the Department of Energy and the Lectio Magistralis by Paolo Merloni.
